Mosaic Monday

This pair of overalls was **free** at one of the garage sales I went to this weekend.  They were the only "man" item in a closet full of vintage women's clothes.  Some, vintage AWESOME, some vintage not so awesome.  Yes, they were all free.  I did take a few of them.  I'm pretty sure that these were the woman's overalls, not her deceased husbands.

There are patches on patches on patches...all neatly hand stitched.  I suppose I'll just hang these in my storage room down stairs for now.   I was told the grand daughter's took all of the vintage jewelry.  I think they missed the best treasure.  Maybe I'm romanticizing  these, but they are my treasure now to romanticize all I want.  I walked this home peering deeply into her very dusty and musty life and saw what she had or more importantly what she didn't have. She just recently entered into a nursing home.  The daughter in law offered information and you can't help but overhear family chatter as you walk the house. I feel oddly humbled to have these now.

More mosaics to be found here at Mary's Little Red House.

  1. They sure do tell a story... I hope that you find a neat way to display them for the treasure they are.

  3. the care that was taken in the mending always amazes me - with the attention to detail, you can tell this was a person who didn't go rushing around from project to project - a lesson to be learned! your photos are wonderful!

  4. I'm humbled too by the time spent mending these instead of just running to a nearby Walmart and buying more. A lesson learned from a pair of worthy overalls.

  7. ooo Jill...it is so beautiful that you rescued these...they certainly do have a story to tell...your mosaic is wonderfully done too

it really warms my heart to know you've already given the overalls a place of honor

I was so inspired the other day when I saw your wonderful creative space and spied a big star made out of a folding wooden measuring stick (name?) ... I told Mr Magpie about it and handed him the wooden measure and I now have a super star too...thank you for inspiring me on many levels!

  10. I have taken up a love of mending lately .... We are a disposable society - but as these overalls attest - that is new for us. I want to go back to roots. I agree that you found the treasure!!
